With the development of the aerospace industry, the high performance, high reliability, and low cost of advanced aircraft, launch vehicles, and satellites are largely due to the widespread application of new materials and processes.
Advanced composite materials are a crucial component of high-tech aerospace products. Continuous CF/PEEK composites offer extremely high heat resistance (heat deflection temperature up to 340°C), corrosion resistance, friction resistance, and good biocompatibility. They can effectively reduce the structural weight of aircraft, launch vehicles, and satellites, increase payload and range, and lower costs.
Continuous CF/PEEK composites possess very high mechanical properties, while also offering higher impact resistance than traditional thermoset composites. They can be used to process aircraft landing gear skin components, while also reducing the weight of the aircraft.

Applications in the Civil Aviation Sector
CF/PEEK composites are widely used in the leading edges of civil aircraft wings, as well as internal aircraft parts including seat frames, brackets, beam ribs, and air intake pipes.

Applications in the Aerospace Sector
PEEK prepreg has been used for fully automatic tail units, fuselage belly panels, fuselage skins, nose landing gear doors, main landing gear doors, wing panels, horizontal stabilizer leading edges, and more. As wave-transparent materials, PEEK, PEKK, PES and other resins have good radar transmission and electrical wave transmission properties. When radar waves are incident on these resin-based composite materials, creeping electromagnetic waves are not easily formed. The unidirectional reinforced grade of carbon fiber and PEEK multifilament hybrid yarn is suitable for manufacturing helicopter rotor blades and some important shell components.

PEEK, as a typical high-performance thermoplastic resin, has outstanding performance in various aspects. When compounded with continuous carbon fiber, the properties of the two materials are effectively combined, resulting in even better comprehensive performance. Continuous carbon fiber CF/PEEK thermoplastic composites, due to their excellent properties, have been widely used in aerospace, medical, automotive and other fields. They are also a focus of research for universities, scientific research institutions, and enterprises.

Advantages of Continuous Carbon Fiber CF/PEEK Composites:

1. Good elongation at break and fracture toughness

PEEK, as a representative high-performance thermoplastic polymer, has a fracture toughness of up to 2.0 KJ/m, which is 20 times that of epoxy resin.

2. Excellent delamination resistance and fatigue resistance

PEEK has good impact resistance; it is one of the best impact-resistant heat-resistant resins. At the same time, PEEK has high rigidity, good dimensional stability, low coefficient of linear expansion, and excellent long-term creep resistance and fatigue resistance.

3. Excellent chemical corrosion resistance

PEEK has excellent chemical corrosion resistance. It has strong resistance to acids, alkalis, and almost all organic solvents. It is only corroded by halogens and strong acids at high temperatures, and at room temperature it only dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid.

4. Excellent hot and humid resistance

PEEK has low moisture absorption and good hot and humid resistance. It can maintain good mechanical properties even under high temperature and high humidity. In addition, it has outstanding hydrolysis resistance, low moisture absorption and permeability, and resistance to steam, water, and seawater.

5. Excellent sliding wear and fretting wear resistance

PEEK can maintain high wear resistance and low friction coefficient at 250°C.

6. Biocompatibility

Studies have shown that when short carbon fiber reinforced PEEK is used as a prosthetic material implanted in animals, it has low cytotoxicity, meets the cytotoxicity index for medical implant materials, and has good blood compatibility and tissue compatibility.

7. X-ray transparency

PEEK has good transmission properties and does not produce artifacts like metal implants do under X-ray or CT examination, which facilitates patient medical examinations.
