GF/PEEK Antenna Radome

PEEK, as a typical high-performance thermoplastic resin, exhibits outstanding properties. When combined with continuous glass fiber, the properties of the two materials are effectively integrated, resulting in even more superior overall performance. Continuous carbon fiber CF/PEEK thermoplastic composites, due to their excellent properties, have been widely used in aerospace, medical, automotive, and other fields. They are also a major focus of research and attention in universities, research institutions, and enterprises.

With the development of the aerospace industry, the high performance, high reliability, and low cost of advanced aircraft, launch vehicles, and satellites are largely due to the widespread application of new materials and new processes.
Advanced composite materials are an important part of high-tech aerospace products. Continuous CF/PEEK composites have extremely high heat resistance (heat distortion temperature up to 340°C), corrosion resistance, friction resistance, and good biocompatibility. They can effectively reduce the structural weight of aircraft, launch vehicles, and satellites, increase payload and range, and reduce costs.
Continuous CF/PEEK composites have very high mechanical properties and higher impact resistance than traditional thermoset composites. They can be used to process aircraft landing gear skin components while reducing the weight of the aircraft.

Applications in the civil aircraft field
CF/PEEK composites are widely used in the leading edges of civil aircraft wings, aircraft interior parts including seat frames, brackets, beam stiffeners, and intake pipes.

Applications in the aviation field
PEEK prepreg has been used for fully automatic tail fins, fuselage belly panels, fuselage skins, nose landing gear doors, main landing gear doors, wing panels, horizontal stabilizer leading edges, etc. As wave-transparent materials, PEEK, PEKK, PES and other resins have good radar transmission and electrical projection characteristics. When radar waves strike these resin-based composite materials, it is not easy to form creeping electromagnetic waves. Unidirectional reinforced grades of carbon fiber and PEEK multifilament hybrid yarn are suitable for making helicopter rotors and some important shell components.

Advantages of continuous carbon fiber CF/PEEK composites:

1. Good elongation at break and fracture toughness

PEEK, as a representative high-performance thermoplastic polymer, has a fracture toughness of up to 2.0 KJ/m, which is 20 times that of epoxy resin.

2. Excellent delamination resistance and fatigue resistance

PEEK has good impact resistance; it is one of the best impact-resistant heat-resistant resins. At the same time, PEEK has high rigidity, good dimensional stability, low linear expansion coefficient, and excellent long-term creep and fatigue resistance.

3. Excellent chemical corrosion resistance

PEEK has excellent chemical corrosion resistance, with strong resistance to acids, alkalis, and almost all organic solvents. It is only corroded by halogens and strong acids at high temperatures, and at room temperature it is only soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid.

4. Excellent hot and humid resistance

PEEK has low moisture absorption and good hot and humid resistance. It can maintain good mechanical properties under high temperature and high humidity. In addition, it has outstanding hydrolysis resistance, low moisture absorption and permeability, and resistance to steam, water, and seawater.

5. Excellent sliding wear and fretting wear

PEEK can maintain high wear resistance and low friction coefficient at 250°C.

6. Biocompatibility

Studies have shown that when short carbon fiber reinforced PEEK is implanted into animals as a prosthetic material, its cytotoxicity is low, meeting the cytotoxicity indicators for medical implant materials, and it has good blood compatibility and tissue compatibility.

7. X-ray transparency

PEEK has good transmittance properties and does not produce artifacts like metal implants under X-ray or CT examination, facilitating patient medical examinations.
