The third phase of polyaryletherketone (PAEK) production built by Victrex at a cost of 90 million pounds in the northwest of the UK has been successfully put into operation, mainly to provide customers with more secure supply guarantees and complete solutions. This investment has increased Victrex’s production capacity by 70%, with an annual output of more than 7,000 tons. In addition to increasing the production capacity of PAEK resins, this global PAEK manufacturer will continue to invest in downstream products, including APTIV Films, pipes, strips and newly launched medical product components.

More than 1,000 tons of steel structure, more than 2,250 cubic meters of concrete and nearly 30,000 meters of pipes were used to build the new production line. Safety and environmental protection are always given top priority, both during the construction phase and now during the production phase. This standard is ensured through relevant procedures, regulatory approvals and necessary completion acceptance. In addition, the newly built control room ensures centralized management and monitoring of all three production units.

The new PAEK production line is seen as the core of Victrex’s future growth and development foundation, which can provide long-term support for the company’s development in various industries (including automotive, aerospace, energy, electronics and medical), and will focus on a few market areas with great potential, such as aerospace brackets, mobile device applications, knee orthoses and oil and gas pipelines through Magma cooperation. Victrex said that the overall market potential of its high-performance thermoplastic PAEK exceeds 80,000 tons.

Victrex continues to transform and differentiate itself from its competitors through continued investment in research and development. With its headquarters in the UK, technology in Japan and Shanghai, the company aims to provide better services to global and local customers. Victrex also plans to continue to expand its technological position. Earlier in 2015, the company announced that it would build a polymer innovation in the UK for prototyping and scale-up experiments for future development, allowing customers to test their applications before the product is fully commercialized.
