Application of PEEK (polyetheretherketone) in petrochemical industry
1. Company Profile:
Junhua PEEK focuses on the application research and development and production of high-performance polymer plate, rod, pipe and segment profiles and finished parts such as PEEK (polyetheretherketone) and PI (polyimide). It has a complete industrial chain of PEEK raw material resin polymerization, modified granulation, continuous extrusion of plate, rod, pipe and segment profiles, and finished parts processing.
Junhua PEEK has cooperated with customers such as CNPC, Sinopec, Petroleum University, Xi’an, etc. to produce PEEK support sealing rings, PEEK front and rear plugs, PEEK insulating rings, PEEK plates, PEEK insulating wires, PEEK spacer rings, PEEK retaining rings, PEEK wear-resistant sleeves and other products.
High-performance plastic parts such as high-temperature wear-resistant sleeves, insulating rings, front and rear plugs made of PEEK and its modified composite materials can replace traditional materials such as copper alloys, stainless steel, polytetrafluoroethylene, ordinary engineering plastics, graphite, etc., and meet the stringent technical requirements of oil logging and mining equipment for parts such as wear resistance, high temperature resistance, high strength, oil-free lubrication, acid and alkali corrosion, and high reliability. It can reduce operating costs and help the equipment to produce continuously and stably at a higher capacity.
2. Exhibited Products
The PEEK polymer and composite high-performance plastic parts produced by our company have been widely used in various links such as downhole measurement, oil extraction, petrochemical equipment production and transportation.
(1) Continuous carbon fiber CF/PEEK composite pipe
◆The service life is 67% longer than that of steel pipe
◆65% lighter than metal pipes
◆More resistant to hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide corrosion than steel pipes
◆Long-term use in methanol and 160℃ environment
◆Smooth and corrosion-resistant to ensure excellent fluidity
◆It is often used in the oil and gas industry to replace corrosion-resistant alloys used in piping systems.
(2) PEEK used in sealing: reliable sealing solution
◆The strength retention rate reaches 100% after 1000 hours at 175℃ in seawater, hydrocarbons, and 100% hydrogen sulfide gas environment
◆The compression resistance is doubled compared to PTFE
◆300 times higher creep resistance than PTFE
◆18 times higher compression creep resistance than PTFE
◆Replace metal springs to reduce the risk of seals wearing out and contacting the well wall (energy absorbing spring)
In some industries, including oil and gas, PEEK’s primary use is to provide mechanical support for softer sealing materials such as elastomers and fluoropolymers, while in other industries the material’s properties make it well suited as a primary seal.
(3) Application of PEEK in ESP electric submersible pumps (submersible oil pumps)
◆Excellent high temperature resistance, excellent insulation even at 250℃
◆Maintains high mechanical strength even at 250℃
◆It can maintain high reliability even under 200℃ high temperature and 140MPa high pressure for a long time
◆Excellent high temperature resistance and insulation, maintaining high mechanical strength even at 250℃.
(4) Application of PEEK logging instruments: excellent wear resistance and insulation
◆It can maintain high reliability even under 200℃ high temperature and 140MPa high pressure for a long time
◆The insulator can be used for a long time in underground high temperature and strong acidic medium (H 2 S, SO 2 ) without being corroded
◆It has a unique combination of properties, combining wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and stable electrical properties throughout its entire operating temperature range, which helps maintain the integrity of the collected data while causing less electrical interference.
(5) PEEK wire and cable application: excellent high insulation performance
◆Low water absorption and better toughness than polyimide (PI)
◆Excellent cutting and corrosion resistance to ensure zero electrical short circuit
◆Stable chemical corrosion resistance at 200℃ and 100MHz
◆Permeability resistance
◆No need to dip insulating varnish like PI winding, reducing costs
(6) PEEK connector application: improving the overall performance of downhole connectors
◆Compared with glass-ceramic connectors, the service life is twice as long
◆Twice as much power as glass-ceramic connectors
◆Excellent insulation performance ensures no leakage
◆Excellent tolerance in corrosive liquid and gas environments
◆PEEK polymer has high purity and strength, which allows the design of thinner wall sections in more compact connectors, and can perform well even in confined spaces.
◆It can withstand typical oil and gas industry fluids, including seawater, mineral oil and silicone oil, and hydraulic fluids, and is also suitable for hydrogen sulfide (H2S) acid gas wells. The performance of PEEK is much higher than the NORSOK M-710 standard, which is an important specification in the oil and gas industry.
(7) Four parts are used in ESP electric submersible pumps: PEEK insulating ring, insulating wire, thrust wear block and front and rear plugs
(8) PEEK valve seat, thrust washer and valve stem wear-resistant sleeve are used on the valve.
(9) Used in chemical pumps: magnetic pump isolation sleeve, shaft and locking nut, vane of vane pump.
(10) Used in compressors: piston rings, support rings, valve plates, mushroom-shaped valve caps and support pads.
