1. Material Overview
PEEK and PI are high-performance materials synthesized by Victrex of the UK and DuPont of the US respectively and have invention patents. PEEK and PI have excellent comprehensive properties that other general plastics cannot match in high-performance polymers. They have excellent performance suitable for various harsh environments and have been successfully and widely used in various industries such as aerospace, automobiles, electronic semiconductors, electromechanical and other demanding occasions. It is the preferred material for users to develop new products and improve product service life and reliability.
II. Characteristics and Advantages
◆High temperature resistance
The long-term use temperature certified by UL in the United States is 260℃. Even when the temperature reaches 300℃, it can still maintain good mechanical properties
◆Wear resistance
In many extremely harsh application environments such as high temperature, high load and strong corrosion, PEEK polymer and its composite materials have good wear resistance.
◆Self-lubricating
It has a low friction coefficient, can achieve oil-free lubrication, and can work for a long time in media such as oil, water, steam, weak acid and alkali.
◆Corrosion-resistant
It is insoluble in common solvents and has good corrosion resistance to various organic and inorganic chemical reagents.
◆High strength
It has good mechanical strength among plastics. It also has high rigidity and surface hardness.
◆Easy to process
Parts can be directly processed by injection molding. Post-processing such as turning, milling, drilling, tapping, bonding and ultrasonic welding can be performed.
◆ Hydrolysis resistance
PEEK products can continue to work for thousands of hours without obvious performance degradation when immersed in steam at a temperature exceeding 250°C or in high-pressure water.
◆ Flame retardancy
Without the use of any additives, the flammability rating of a 1.45mm thick PEEK sample is UL94 V-0.
◆Low smoke and non-toxicity
The amount of smoke and toxic gas during combustion is particularly low.
◆Electrical properties
In a wide range of temperature and frequency, it can still maintain stable and excellent electrical properties.
◆Radiation resistance
It has extremely strong resistance to high-dose gamma-ray radiation, and its mechanical properties can be fully retained, and it can be used as radiation-resistant parts.
◆Dimensional stability
Disadvantages
■The injection process is harsh and the machining process requires high requirements.
■The strength is somewhat lower than that of metal materials.
