Warmly celebrate our company’s major breakthrough in the field of continuous extrusion of PEEK, PI and other special engineering plastics
Warmly celebrate our company’s major breakthrough in the field of continuous extrusion of special engineering plastics. On April 28, 2019, our company successfully extruded 35 mm diameter thermoplastic PI rods.
As a material with outstanding performance, polyimide (PI) is widely used in electromechanical, electronic and electrical, instrumentation, petrochemical, measurement and other fields due to its excellent electrical insulation, wear resistance, high temperature radiation resistance and physical and mechanical properties. It has become one of the indispensable materials in the global science and technology field.
However, due to the narrow molding window of PI, easy degradation and hydrolysis, and severe mold expansion effect, the molding conditions are harsh. Therefore, the traditional thermoplastic PI molding process is compression molding, injection molding, cast molding, etc., and there are very few rods made by extrusion molding on the market. As a result, almost no domestic manufacturers can achieve continuous extrusion molding of polyimide (PI) profiles. After a long period of research and development, Junhua PEEK overcame various difficulties and finally succeeded in extruding thermoplastic PI rods.
Comparison of advantages and disadvantages of thermoplastic PI extrusion and molding:
A. Advantages of extrusion method:
1. Extrusion of thermoplastic PI rods is a continuous production method, and its production efficiency is much higher than that of molding.
2. Extruded thermoplastic PI can be directly used to produce rods, which can save material waste. (Usually, the mold is pressed into PI sheets, and then processed into rods for use.)
3. Continuous extrusion production can control product quality more stably.
4. The length of the extruded thermoplastic PI rod is much longer than that of the compression-molded thermoplastic PI rod. The continuous operation time during the finished product processing is longer and the degree of mechanization can be higher.
B. Disadvantages of extrusion method:
1. The thermal stability requirements for thermoplastic PI materials are relatively high.
2. The fluidity of thermoplastic PI is required to be high, and the matching degree between fluidity and mold and extrusion process is required to be higher.
3. Compared with the molding method, the extrusion method has a narrower processing window and requires a higher technical level from the manufacturer.
The thermoplastic PI rods produced by our company have good internal density and are dark brown in color. They can be ground according to customer needs to more accurately control the size of the rods. Customers are welcome to consult and purchase!
